Three recipients of the scholarship programme under Darussalam Pilotage Services Sdn Bhd (DPS) shared their recipes for success following a signing ceremony with DPS for the deck officer cadet programme and will undertake a diploma in nautical studies at Malaysian Maritime Academy Sdn Bhd’s (MMASB) maritime training academy, Akademi Laut Malaysia.

Muhammad Syafiq bin Muhammad Saidi, 21, expressed his delight and looks forward to the experience and opportunities in his new career. He also advised the public to not be afraid to explore and try new things.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Naqiuddin bin Haji Norariffin, 17, said he has a passion for maritime operations and love the idea of navigating a large vessel safely.

He said, “If an opportunity can guarantee a brighter future, just take it.“

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Muhammad Irfan bin Abdullah said being a marine pilot as a career is a golden opportunity for him as it is a well-respected job.

He added, “I am the pioneer in my family as I am the first to take the step on a career path.“

His advice is to strive for continuous learning, work hard and smart as well as practise logical and critical thinking.

“Accept failure as a stepping stone towards success,” he added. – James Kon
