The Hijrah new year celebration will now be known as Ilal Hijrah which means migration.
Brunei Darussalam will also mark Ilal Hijrah 1445 on July 18 corresponding to 1st of Muharram 1445 Hijrah.
The celebration themed ‘Ugama Dipelihara, Negara Sejahtera’ will be held at mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide with Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, Kampong Pandan Mosque, Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque and Utama Mohammad Salleh Mosque as focal points.
The celebration, organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Development and Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, will feature Doa Akhir Tahun 1444 Hijrah and Doa Awal Tahun 1445 Hijrah.
Side events include gifts for newborns on 1st of Muharram 1445 Hijrah and celebrations at ministries, educational institutions, mosques, associations and the private sector.
The celebration’s new official name refers to the acquisition of knowledge and betterment of life. With the Islamic new year, Muslims are encouraged to change for the better. – Azlan Othman
