Recycle initiative launched to promote sustainability during festive celebration

Baiduri Bank has launched the ‘Bisaitah Recycle 2025’ initiative, encouraging the public to recycle used festive packets instead of discarding them, as part of its commitment to sustainability and responsible waste management.

Following the success of last year’s campaign, which collected and recycled over 192 kilogrammes of festive packets, this year’s initiative aims to increase community participation by expanding collection points beyond Baiduri Bank branches to selected partner locations from February 3 to May 2.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Consumer Banking and Chairman of Baiduri Bank’s Sustainability Committee Manuel Bulens said the initiative aligns with the bank’s sustainability strategy under its ‘People, Process, and Planet’ pillars. “Through ‘Bisaitah Recycle’, we are integrating sustainability into cultural traditions, encouraging mindful consumption while preserving the spirit of festive giving. Under the Planet pillar, we are committed to addressing key environmental imperatives such as climate change mitigation and responsible resource management,” he said. He added that by collaborating with Kaimana Living and Thryffy, the initiative makes recycling more accessible and impactful, reducing landfill waste and supporting a greener Brunei.

The Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) has expressed its support for the initiative. “Encouraging recycling habits, particularly for common festive waste, is an important step toward a more environmentally sustainable Brunei. We commend Baiduri Bank for its efforts in promoting this initiative,” said JASTRe Director Hajah Martinah binti Haji Tamit.

The public is encouraged to participate by dropping off used festive packets at designated collection bins at the following locations during operating hours: Baiduri Bank Main Branch, Serusop Branch, Kaimana Living at Mabohai Shopping Complex, and Thryffy Market at Rimba Point in Brunei-Muara District; Baiduri Bank Tutong Branch in Tutong District; and Baiduri Bank Kuala Belait Branch in Belait District.

Kaimana Living, a sustainability-focused business promoting low-waste living, and Thryffy, an advocate of the circular economy, will serve as collection points for the initiative.
