Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) celebrated the launch of its new route connecting Brunei Darussalam to Chennai, India with an event at Tarindak D’Seni in Bandar Seri Begawan yesterday.
Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha was the guest of honour.
Other guests included Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah; Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid as Chairman of RB; Deputy Minister (Civil Service Governance) at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Paduka Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos as Deputy Chairman of RB; Indian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Alok Amitabh Dmiri; and President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Brunei Darussalam Nazeer Ahamed Zackiriah.
The event began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by welcoming remarks by RB Chief Executive Officer Captain Sabirin bin Haji Abdul Hamid and speeches by Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary, the Indian high commissioner and president of the Indian Chamber of Commerce.
Captain Sabirin expressed his gratitude for the support that made the new route possible, thanking His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the government of Brunei, the board of directors and government agencies for their collaboration. He emphasised RB’s commitment to providing superior travel experiences, highlighted by the Airbus A320neo aircraft and the airline’s world-renowned cabin crew. The launch event featured a cutting of the cake and cultural performances organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce. – Lyna Mohammad
