Raising awareness on Dementia

Around 100 individuals joined a walk to raise awareness and show solidarity for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers on Sunday. 

The ‘Memory Walk’, organised by Dementia Brunei, Jerudong Park Playground and McDonald’s Brunei, was held in conjunction with Dementia Awareness Month. 

Participants took part in a warm-up session before embarking on a two-kilometre walk around the Jerudong Park Playground. 

Vice-President of Dementia Brunei Dr Hajah Asmah binti Haji Husaini said that community-driven efforts are important in supporting those with dementia and their families. 

“The Memory Walk is not only a way to spread awareness about dementia but also a powerful reminder of the community’s role in providing compassion and care to those affected,” she said.

The walk concluded with a moving sharing session by Yang Mulia Ampuan Fatin Syuhaidah binti Ampuan Ahmad, a dedicated dementia carer, who provided a personal account of the challenges faced by caregivers and the importance of emotional support from the community.

Also present at the event were Deputy General Manager of Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd Haji Muhammad Munir Syafiq bin Dato Paduka Haji Awang Metassan, Vice President of Dementia Brunei Dr Hajah Asmah binti Haji Husaini, Jerudong Park Playground Manager Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Haji Muhammad Abdul Qayyum bin Pengiran Sura Negara Pengiran Anak Haji Muhammad Bey Muntassir and Senior Finance Manager of Jerudong Park Playground Yong nyok Shar.
