Rainy days ahead: Met Dept

Weather conditions in the country are forecasted to be active for the next few days, according to the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD).

This is due to a low-pressure system near Brunei, that makes the atmosphere unstable, thereby increasing the formation of rain clouds.

Active weather conditions are expected to start Wednesday, May 22nd until Sunday, May 26th, with occasional heavy and thundery showers affecting many areas of the country.

Wind gusts may increase up to 45 km/h during heavy or thundery showers.

Brunei Darussalam is currently in the inter-monsoon period. During this period, the weather conditions in our country are influenced by local wind effect, which typically results in showers or thundershowers at the inland areas during the afternoon, and affecting the coastal and sea areas at night, and sometimes persisting to early morning.

Over Brunei waters, sea state is generally at slight, between 0.3 and 0.6 meters.

There is risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during continuous heavy rain and also during high tide.
