Public tip-off leads to 145kg of dubious meat

Some 135.8 kilogrammes (kg) of chicken parts and 9.2kg of raw meat were seized by enforcement officers from the Halal Food Control Division of the Syariah Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) during a joint-operation conducted yesterday.

The joint-operation, involving Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED), inspected a residential area in Kampong Kilanas. During inspection, enforcement officers found the chicken parts and raw meat stored in a house suspected to have no halal import permit.

The confiscation, totalling 145kg, was based on public tip-off. MoRA reminded companies bringing halal raw meat into the Sultanate to acquire required permit from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB)and to adhere to requirements by other agencies. This is to ensure the halal status of the products is guaranteed.
