Preserving the ‘pengangunan’ practice

More than 20 pengangun from all four districts attended a gathering at a restaurant in Kampong Kiulap recently.

The event, chaired by Hajah Ajijah binti Haji Momin, was the first of its kind organised to serve as a platform for knowledge and experience sharing, foster closer ties as well as preserve the pengangunan culture.

Former Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) director Hajah Aminah binti Haji Momin spoke on the importance of preserving the Bruneian culture while incorporating the practices in accordance with the teachings of Islam and the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy.

Meanwhile, organising committee chairperson Hajah Ajijah said besides bringing together pengangun from across the country, the gathering also provided a platform for them to cooperate and meet.

She also shared that there are plans to conduct a workshop to raise public awareness on pengangun and how it has evolved over time. – Rokiah Mahmud
