A 33-year-old permanent resident was ordered to settle a BND247,000 fine for possession of smuggled cigarettes and alcoholic beverages at a residence.
Wong Yeng Yiing would have to serve 36 months’ jail in default of payment of the fine, said the court.
The customs prosecutor yesterday informed Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid that a team of law enforcers unearthed the contraband at the residence in RPN Kampong Pandan, Kuala Belait at 9.17pm on July 1.
Officers found 268 cartons and 54 packets of cigarettes along with 96 cartons and 96 cans of alcoholic beverages, which the defendant failed to declare. – Fadley Faisal
