RCED foil smuggling attempts

The Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) through its law enforcement division, carried out three operations recently targetting Kampong Saba Tengah, boat landing areas of Temburong District and the Sungai Teritip waterway.

Personnel detained two individuals believed to be involved in the smuggling of contraband on March 28. The suspects were a 35-year-old Indonesian woman and 52-year-old local man. Twelve cartons and 432 packets of cigarettes were uncovered during the operation.

Meanwhile, a suspicious vehicle was stopped at the boat landing area in Temburong, believed to be transporting contraband on March 29.

The RCED detained a local man aged 31. Some 960 cans of alcohol with a packet and 11 sticks of cigarettes were found.

The contraband and the vehicle were seized. Initial investigation revealed that the suspect works as a security guard at a security company.

The third operation at the waterway of Sungai Teritip on March 30 unearthed 624 cans and 72 bottles of alcohol with one package containing undeclared health products.

The contraband, a boat measuring 15 feet and a Yamaha engine were seized.

The suspects and evidence were brought to the law enforcement division office for investigation.
