Parents need to make sure children follow health protocols

Now that all students have returned to school, I would like to urge parents to be more responsible by ensuring that their children screen for COVID-19 on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday nights.

My son’s classmate recently had to perform his test in school because he had forgotten to do so the night before. The result came back positive, forcing his friends who he had been mingling with that morning to declare themselves as close contacts. As a result, everyone in his circle, including my son, has to do daily testing.

The pandemic has taught us that each and every one of us has to be more responsible to protect the collective health. We get vaccinated against the virus to help the country reach herd immunity. We contribute to the poor during these trying times because the COVID crisis has a comparatively greater impact on their quality of life.

While the grand gestures have served us well, especially in driving the country to endemicity, we are not totally out of the woods yet. We need to continue to work together, and that means making sure that we follow the health protocols set up by our authorities.
