Businesses regaining footing in Sultanate

Businesses of all sizes reported general improvements in their business conditions in January 2022, compared to the previous month, due to increased activities with further COVID-19 de-escalation plans in the Early Endemic Phase. Micro and small businesses recorded a Business Sentiment Index (BSI) of 50.1, while medium and large businesses recorded a BSI or 50.2. The BSI and sub-indices can be interpreted as: above 50 – expansion/optimism compared to the previous month; 50 – no change compared to the previous month; and below 50 – contraction/less optimism compared to the previous month. 575 RBAF personnel receive the nod

With the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, 575 Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) personnel, comprising in-service and retired personnel, received long service and good conduct medals in a ceremony held at RBAF military camps yesterday. Muslims were urged to think positively and avoid stress by looking to faith amid the third wave of COVID-19 during a Munajat session on Saturday.

Head of Dakwah Propagation (Counselling) at the Islamic Da’wah Centre Haji Badaruddin bin Haji Basar in his religious talk ‘Facing Test from Allah the Almighty’, said the pandemic and the Omicron variant have an impact on mental health, which led the Ministry of Health (MoH) calling on the people to think poisitively to avoid stress, sadness and anxiety.

He said In the context of Islam, Muslims should stay calm and avoid sadness by always having good intentions and believing Allah the Almighty will assist in finding a way out of difficult situation.

He said Allah the Almighty will answer to good intentions, provided that they are sincere.
The weekly religious gathering on Saturday received 1,200 participants, comprising the MoH workforce, at hospitals and suraus nationwide.

The workforce of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and mosque congregants also participated.

The gathering began with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah led by the Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar.

It was followed by the recitation of Surah Yaasiin led by Assistant Education Officer at Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muhammad Adlan Aziz bin Haji Yussop while Doa Munajat was read by Assistant State Mufti Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mazanan bin Haji Yusof from Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Jangsak.

The Munajat night was also highlighted with the recitation of Selawat Ibrahimiyyah led by Medical Commander of the COVID-19 Holding Area Ma’had (CHAM) in Tutong District Dr Haji Mohammad Athaaillah bin Haji Abdullah.

The religious gathering ended with Doa Peliharakan Sultan and Negara Brunei Darussalam by Belait Mosque Affairs Officer from Kampong Sungai Liang Mosque.

The Munajat night is held to get closer to Allah the Almighty and seek forgiveness through Selawat, recitation of prayers and supplication with the hope that the people and the nation are free from calamity and diseases.

The National Anti-Drug Association (BASMIDA) marked the United Nations Day of Action by handing out 100 exercise books with anti-drug messages printed on its inside cover to Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Primary School students.

All parents received one book for each of their children.

BASMIDA was granted permission by the school to place the books at a suitable location on the ground floor for parents to collect for their children, following Ministry of Health guidelines to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“This is part of our ma’ruf nahi mungkar activity that we must always obtain Allah the Almighty’s rahmat (mercy) and redha (acceptance),” said BASMIDA President Datin Hajah Masni binti Haji Ali.

The president said the activity did not involve BASMIDA funds as it was part of its volunteer work. She said volunteerism is about giving, sharing and supporting a shared cause. For them, it was about creating a “no drug abuse” future for everyone.

BASMIDA members hoped the anti-drug message will leave a lasting impression on the students.

YSHHB School’s CEO Mohamed Fliti Abdel Majed was present alongside Datin Hajah Masni and BASMIDA member Hajah Ramlah binti Haji Ghani.

The event was also held in support of the Day of Action programme of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Pusat Ehsan Al-Hajjah Maryam and Imagine Sdn Bhd received certificates for the ASEAN Outstanding Social Welfare and Development Awards (AOSWADA) during a ceremony at the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports (MCYS) recently.

The award was first introduced in December during the 17th Senior Officials Meeting on Social Welfare and Development and is given in recognition of the role, achievements and contributions of non-governmental- organisations and private sector from ASEAN member states in the field of social welfare and development.
