More than 1,000 participants from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs gathered at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien yesterday for a walkathon held in conjunction with the 34th Teacher’s Day celebration.
Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, the guest of honour, flagged off the walkathon and participated in the three-kilometre walk, which started and ended at the same location. Prior to the walkathon, the guest of honour joined participants in an aerobic warm-up session.
The event, organised by the Department of Co-Curriculum Education, aimed to foster closer ties between the ministries.
It also supported the nation’s aspiration for a healthy lifestyle and aligned with the Bandarku Ceria programme, enhancing participants’ emotional, social, and mental well-being.
In addition to the walkathon, this year’s celebration included the Acara Sukan Ria in conjunction with National Family Day 2024. The event, open to the public and organised by the Department of Schools, featured games hosted by the department’s clusters to strengthen bonds between teachers, students, parents, and staff.
The guest of honour toured the event and participated in some of the games.
