Over 100 attend BILIF open day

Brunei Institute of Leadership and Islamic Finance (BILIF) organised a Virtual Open Day 2022 themed ‘Professional Development through Learning’ on Wednesday.

Over 100 participants from both the public and private sectors attended.
The event began with an opening remark by BILIF Chief Executive Officer Hajah Sufinah binti Haji Sahat who highlighted BILIF’s commitment to contribute to the nation’s human capital development by providing high quality programmes and professional certifications in collaboration with local and international institutions.

The open day featured local and international experts, as well as industry practitioners who explored and discussed ideas on leadership, Islamic finance and professional development.

The event’s first segment saw a panel discussion on ‘Lifelong Learning for Career Development’ moderated by Baiduri Bank Group Deputy Head of Group Human Resources and Head of Learning and Development Chiam Chin Huei.

Joining her as panellists were Executive Director, Monetary Management, Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) Hajah Nurhuaida Fakhriah binti Haji Damit and The London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) Business Development Director Ang Kar Wee.

The event also featured a sharing session titled ‘Leadership Journey’ between two former participants from BILIF’s Senior Executive Advanced Leadership (SEAL) programme – Head of Financing Officer at the Ministry of Finance and Economy Dr Mohd Aidil Yusrie bin Shari and Senior Manager, Regional and International Maritime Affairs at the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam Salmaya Rahayu binti Salleh.

The session was followed by a short presentation on ‘Continual Professional Development’ by Executive Development Programme Director at Singapore Management University Dr Flocy Joseph.

A fireside chat on Islamic finance between Head, Executive Education and Training at the International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) Sarafuddin Abdul Syahid Andrew Jackson Sowell, Associate at BDCB (Syariah Finance), Muhammad Zul Hamzi Faiz bin Haji Mohd Zali and former participant of BILIF’s signature programme, Fiqh Mu’amalat Practitioners Programme (FMPP) was also held. The segment concluded with a short presentation on Islamic finance by Sarafuddin Sowell.

BILIF also shared several programmes and certifications that they are offering in 2022.

These include their signature programmes Leadership in Islamic Finance and Economics (LIFE), Young Executive Leadership Programme (YELP) and SEAL programme as well as their new Professional Diploma in Banking and Finance.
