Nursing and midwifery forum boosts healthcare services

A forum on ‘Nursing and Midwifery Leadership within the Healthcare System’ was held by the Brunei Darussalam Nurses’ Association (PENJURU) on Sunday.

The forum was in collaboration with the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

It aimed to empower nurses and midwives who have just completed their studies to enhance leadership and management skills and ensure quality patient care procedures and effective healthcare in the Sultanate.

PENJURU President Datin Paduka Hajah Suraya Noraidah binti Abdullah, Head of Nursing Training and Development Centre at the Ministry of Health (MoH) Hajah Norzihan binti Haji Ibrahim and Senior Assistant Professor and Programme Leader Nursing and Midwifery of PAPRASB IHS were among the panel.

It was hoped that participants will benefit from knowledge development and create many opportunities for the betterment of all, to elevate the nursing and midwifery services to a higher level of competitiveness and performance on a global scale.

Nursing and midwifery are professional careers requiring high skills and knowledge, commitment, efficiency, and a willingness to serve regardless of place, nationality, or religion.

The combination of high skills and knowledge helps nurses and midwives prepare to face any critical situations centred on patients and the community. The forum also hoped to serve as an inspiration for the public to enhance knowledge and skills, as well as develop a positive attitude towards the nursing and midwifery profession as well to foster the ability to analyse problems and collaborate with the community, while equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills to fulfil their roles.

Various efforts have been made by PENJURU in advancing the nursing and midwifery profession in line with the progress of the national healthcare system to provide the best services to the people.

This is achieved by coordinating and implementing educational activities within the service because registered nurses and midwives in the country are vital engines in the healthcare delivery system for the public. – Rokiah Mahmud
