Non-halal lint remover brushes discovered

The Ministry of Religious Affairs, through the Halal Food Control Division of the Department of Syariah Affairs, has received a complaint concerning a type of lint remover brush suspected to be made from pig bristles.

Following the complaint, the Department of Syariah Affairs sent the brush for analysis to the Department of Scientific Services under the Ministry of Health. The results confirmed that the lint remover brush tested positive for pig bristles.

In response to this finding, and to protect the interests of the Muslim community in Brunei Darussalam, the Department of Syariah Affairs is advising business owners and managers to immediately remove the brushes from public sale. Muslim consumers in the country are also urged not to purchase or use these brushes.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs reminded all business owners, managers, traders, suppliers, and importers of products and consumer goods to remain vigilant and ensure that imported products intended for sale to the public in supermarkets or shops are halal. They must ensure that halal products do not mix with non-halal products, as this is crucial in safeguarding the Muslim community from unintentionally purchasing or using non-halal goods.

The Ministry expressed its gratitude to the public for their information regarding this issue. Individuals who wish to report or share information about the sale of non-halal products in business premises can do so directly to the Department of Syariah Affairs through the Halal Food Control Division’s hotline at 7166222, or by visiting any of the division’s offices in each district. – FADLEY FAISAL
