The Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), Ministry of Development kickstarted the Eco Ramadhan Bersama JASTRe Campaign Version 3.0 this year, with the Campaign to Expand the No Plastic Bag Everyday Initiative at Gerai Ramadhan, Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, in collaboration with Zero Waste Brunei.
JASTRe Director Martinah binti Haji Tamit, Dayangku Farah Amirah binti Pengiran Redzuan, Acting Deputy Director of Department of Youth and Sports at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and Managing Director of Riza Fudhlana Management Service Pengiran Haji Haris bin Pengiran Haji Duraman as the main organiser for Gerai Ramadhan were present at the launch.
The campaign is supported by the Department of Youth and Sports at the MCYS, United States Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, Takaful Brunei Darussalam, Progresif Sdn Bhd and Unified National Network (UNN).
Some 625 reusable bags were distributed to customers and visitors of the Gerai Ramadhan.
Campaign to Expand the No Plastic Bag Everyday Initiative at Gerai Ramadhan is a continuation of the initiative by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) to expand the initiative to other plastic bag users including convenience stores, restaurants and market stalls.
The Eco Ramadhan Bersama JASTRe Campaign is a social media campaign organised by JASTRE introduced during Ramadhan 2021.
The campaign aims to raise awareness on the environmentally-friendly alternatives such as reusable bags, reusable bottles, reusable food containers and so on, and at the same time encourage the reduction of the single-use items.
