Nine individuals, three companies hit with fines

The Law Enforcement Division of the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department slapped BND2,800 in compound fines on nine individuals and three companies for illegally disposing rubbish in public areas.

The orders were a result of inspections dubbed Operasi Bersih 12/2023 and Operasi 13/2023 conducted from August 21 to 26. Each individual was ordered to pay BND200 while the companies had to settle BND500 in fine each.

Failure to do so will result in the case being brought to court, said the agency.

It added that those found guilty will face a fine between BND1,000 and BND3,000 for the first offence and between BND3,000 and BND9,000, imprisonment of no more than six months, or both, for subsequent offences.

Companies found guilty will face a fine between BND2,000 and BND10,000 for the first offence and between BND10,000 and BND30,000, imprisonment of no more than 12 months, or both, for subsequent offences. – Fadley Faisal & James Kon
