Various issues and challenges in the Temburong District such as the need of signboards for mosques, excavators to assist in grave digging and the need for hearses were acknowledged by Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman at the 19th Legislative Council (LegCo) meeting yesterday.
The matter was raised by LegCo Member Yang Berhormat Haji Awang Sulaiman bin Haji Nasir.
The LegCo member raised certain issues such as the need for these vehicles as the district only has one sanctioned hearse. Yang Berhormat Haji Sulaiman also raised the issue of expanding Muslim cemeteries in the district. He stated that certain allocated areas are difficult to dig manually and the assistance of an excavator will help in solving the issue.
He also highlighted the need of signboards as a means of assisting drivers to locate several isolated mosques in the district.
In response, the minister acknowledge the need of additional hearses and signboards and the ministry will work with relevant authorities to resolve the issues.
On the issue of cemetery grounds, the minister shared that it is a common issue faced by all districts and the need for excavators will be taken into consideration and will be provided with other assistance if needed after research.
