Nearly 48kg of dubious beef lungs seized

Nearly 48 kilogrammes of beef lungs without a halal import permit was confiscated in a joint operation conducted by the Halal Food Control Division of the Syariah Affairs Department at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) and the Royal Brunei Customs and Excise Department (RCED) at a house in Kampong Tanah Jambu recently.

The case has been handed over to the RCED for further investigation and action.

The MoRA reminded companies importing raw halal meat to Brunei to obtain a halal import permit from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council and fulfil other requirements, to ensure that the meat is guaranteed halal for the Muslim community. The Halal Food Control Division works with enforcement agencies to ensure all laws and regulations are followed, the ministry added.

The public can contact the Syariah Affairs Department through the Halal Food Control Division at 7166222 to channel information on violations of the law involving dubious meat. – Azlan Othman
