The finalists of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults for 1446 Hijrah were announced during a ceremony at the Muzakarah Hall of the International Convention Centre in Berakas yesterday.
Following a three-day semi-final competition from November 11-13, six qaris and six qariahs were selected for the finals from a pool of 57 participants.
The qaris are Haji Hazwan bin Haji Salim, Abdul Qawwiyyel Azezee bin Haji Abdul Rajid, Pengiran Muhd Amirul Aiman bin Pengiran Haji Marjuki, Awangku Adi Nazri bin Pengiran Haji Jefri, Haji Nasrul Fakhri bin Haji Yahya and Ahmad Zulwaqar bin Haji Suhaimi. The qariahs are Dayangku Amal Zahrah binti Pengiran Haji Jefri, Amal Nadzirah binti Haji Asmat, Dayangku Alma Hazirah binti Pengiran Haji Jefri, Nur Rodaah binti Haji Asmat, Dayangku Siti Ummi Syazana binti Pengiran Haji Marjuki and Dayangku Alya Syahirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri.
Zakat, Waqaf and Baitulmal Management Department Acting Director Pengiran Dr Haji Amiruddin bin Pengiran Haji Damit, as the chairperson of the judges of the semi-finals, announced the results. The event also saw a Tausyeh performance by Mosque Tausyeh Beliawanis and the recitation of Al-Quran by a representative of the finalists.
The competition aimed at providing exposure and encouragement to the country’s qari and qariah in improving the quality of their reading, while raising interests among the community to learn the proper reading techniques.
Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman was the guest of honour.
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, Ra’es of Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan Associate Professor Dr Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani, Acting Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the MoRA Haji Shamshol bin Haji Omar and Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at the MoRA Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim were in attendance. – Lyna Mohamad
