The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) has ordered to isolation of all products produced by MISUNG Family Co Ltd, South Korea after it was discovered their Hershey’s Marshmallow Hot Choco contains non-halal ingredients.
The ministry said the beverage contained gelatin sourced from pork, which was confirmed by the company after it was contacted by the Syariah Affairs Department following public complaints who had doubted the halal status of the product.
According to MoRA, the company said the dehydrated marshmallow used as one of the product’s ingredients contained gelatin sourced from pork.
The ministry has ordered the owner of the supermarket involved to isolate all products produced by MISUNG Family Co Ltd immediately to the non-halal section.
The ministry has also advised all importers, supermarkets and shops to take isolation measures if there are products from the Korean company being distributed and sold on their premises to safeguard the Muslim community in the country.
The ministry also reminded owners, managers, operators, traders, suppliers and importers of products in the country to be vigilant and sensitive to imported products sold to the public and ensure that halal products are not mixed with non-halal products, so that the Muslim community does not consume dubious products.
