Muslims in Brunei Darussalam are advised to stop consuming several Doritos brand products – Nacho Cheese, Mild Salsa, Hot Salsa and Medium Tomato Salsa – containing spirit vinegar and white wine vinegar.
The products were examined following public complaints. The Halal Food Control Division under the Syariah Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) examined the products and discovered they contain alcohol-based vinegar.
The department also contacted the producer of the products, Walker Snack Food Lt (UK) which confirmed that no Halal certification has been issued for the products. The department instructed shops to isolate the products to the non-Halal section.
Business owners, managers, retailers, suppliers and importers are reminded to be cautious when importing products to be sold to the public, and to have non-halal and halal segregation.
