Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman on Saturday received a waqaf contribution in the form of a book titled Masjid-Masjid Brunei Darussalam (Brunei Darussalam Mosques). The book was presented by the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Syarikat Borneo Corporation Dr Haji Nasir Latif.
The handover ceremony was held at the Dhiyafah Room, Ministry of Religious Affairs. The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, led by Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque Supervisor Zulkifli bin Haji Murat, followed by remarks from a representative of Syarikat Borneo Corporation.
The ceremony proceeded with the presentation of the waqaf by Dr Haji Nasir Latif to the minister, who then handed it over to Acting Director of Mosque Affairs Haji Amir Hisham bin Haji Masri.
The book, contributed as part of the company’s charitable initiative, is intended for distribution to mosques, suraus and other places of worship nationwide to benefit congregants. Brunei Darussalam Mosques features historical references drawn from Al-Quran and Hadith, insights into mosques in Islamic history, and details about major mosques in Brunei Darussalam. It also provides guidance on mosque etiquette and shares the author’s experiences from visits to mosques abroad.
The book is expected to serve as a source of knowledge and reference for the public while contributing to the development of mosques in Brunei Darussalam.
Authored by Balai Kenangan Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien former director Dato Paduka Dr Haji Abdul Latif bin Haji Ibrahim, the book reflects his extensive expertise. Dr Haji Abdul Latif holds a PhD in Anthropology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and a Master of Philosophy in Anthropology from Cambridge University. – Fadhil Yunus
