Ministry says blood shortage across country, calls for public contribution

The Ministry of Health (MoH) yesterday urged members of the public to come forward to donate blood as the supplies at hospitals and blood banks nationwide are running low.

According to the MoH, blood of all types are needed for patients needing blood transfusion across the country. The blood donation centre of the Department of Laboratory Services will hold several donation campaigns in the coming week to boost the supplies.

Today, a blood donation drive will take place at the headquarters of the Public Works Department (JKR), in conjunction with Global Surveyors’ Day, from 9am to 1.30pm.

Another blood donation drive will take place on April 27, from 9am to 2.30pm, at the premises of UNICORP Sdn Bhd in Perindustrian Beribi.

The blood bank of Pengiran Isteri Hajjah Mariam Hospital in the Temburong District will also orga-nise a campaign on April 27, from 9am to 2pm at Dewan Belalong Hall, Pekan Bangar, in conjunction with the Badudun Bersama Biskita roadshow, hosted by Radio Television Brunei (RTB). The public can also make contribution at the Blood Donation Centre in Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital du-ring operating hours.

Blood donors are urged to book a slot through the BloodKad app prior to attending a blood drive. – James Kon
