The Ministry of Home Affairs has enforced a BND2,000 cap in fees paid for domestic workers’ employment.
All employment agencies registered with the Labour Department offering domestic workers’ employments with fees over BND2,000 are ordered to re-register their Employment Agency Licences from January 24 to February 20.
Companies offering the same services with fees not more than BND1,500 are maintained. Agencies found not re-registering within the stipulated time will have their licences revoked and banned from offering such services from then on.
A warning was also issued to companies offending the Employment Agencies Order, 2004 that they would be summoned to court and are liable to penalties of a minimum BND2,000 fine, for a second or subsequent offence a fine of BND5,000 minimum, six months’ jail minimum or both.
Members of the public are advised to cooperate by informing the department of any suspicious agencies caught offering domestic workers’ employments with fees over BND2,000.
Agencies licensed under the department are listed and can be accessed by the public on the department’s website.
