The ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Retreat convened at the Sokha Siem Reap Resort and Convention Center in Siem Reap, Cambodia yesterday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Cambodia Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, in his capacity as the Chair of ADMM for 2022, presided over the meeting.
This year’s retreat observed the ASEAN defence ministers and representatives exchanging views around the theme ‘Defence Cooperation to Strengthen Solidarity for Harmonised Security’.
Leading the Brunei Darussalam delegation was Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof.
Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi was accompanied by Permanent Secretary (Policy, Finance and Administration) Colonel (Rtd) Norsuriati binti Haji Sharbini, as Brunei Darussalam’s ASEAN Defence Senior Officials Meeting (ADSOM) leader, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Defence (MinDef).
Two informal meetings were held on the sidelines of the retreat. The ASEAN-United States (US) Defence Ministers’ Informal Meeting was co-chaired by Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh and US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J Austin III.
This was followed by the ASEAN-India Defence Ministers’ Informal Meeting, co-chaired by Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh and Union Minister, Ministry of Defence of India Shri Rajnath Singh.
A bilateral meeting was also held between Brunei Darussalam and Cambodia.
The momentum of meetings continues today with the hosting of the 9th ADMM-Plus.
