On behalf of the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof signed a condolence book for the demise of former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, at the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam yesterday.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan was received by Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam Maeda Toru.
The embassy has opened a condolence book from July 12-13, to allow members of the Diplomatic Corps and the public to add to the list of signatures in honour of the late Japanese former prime minister.
Shinzo Abe died last Friday after he was shot while speaking during a campaign in the City of Nara, central Japan.
Following his passing, His Majesty has consented to send a message of condolences to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on the recent passing of Abe.
In the message, His Majesty and the people of Brunei Darussalam join Japan in mourning the loss of a dedicated and respected leader.
Ending the message, His Majesty conveyed that the Government and people of Brunei offer their most heartfelt condolences to His Majesty Emperor Naruhito of Japan, the government and people of Japan, particularly to the bereaved family of the former prime minister.
The Japanese Ambassador said, “His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam gave a warm and personal message to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and the widow Akie Abe. This is truly a warm message for the bereaved family of the former prime minister as well as the people and government of Japan.”
He added that Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan also offered a warm condolence message to Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoshimasa Hayashi, and expressed gratefulness for the warmth extended by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the minister and the people in the Sultanate.
