Minister praises athletes, coaches in SEA Youth meet

Minister of Health as Acting Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, commended athletes for their unwavering commitment and dedication towards their preparation ahead of the recently-concluded SouthEast Asia Youth Table Tennis Championships Brunei 2023 at the Tutong Sports Complex.

“To the athletes, you have dedicated countless hours of practice, persevered through challenges, and showcased immense talent to reach this stage in your sports pathway. Your hard work and dedication are a true inspiration to us all,” he said.

The minister highlighted that the closing ceremony was an occasion to celebrate the spirit of athleticism, camaraderie, and cultural exchange among the nine contingents participating in the tournament including host nation Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

He also congratulated the winners, adding, “These remarkable achievements inspire us all and remind us of the unlimited potential within each and every one of our young athletes”.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham also praise coaches, officials as well as supporters’ unwavering commitment for their role in guiding the athletes.

He continued, “Your guidance, encouragement and belief in these young athletes have played an important role in their journey towards excellence. Your contributions are invaluable and we are grateful for your commitment to nurturing the future leaders of our region.”

Southeast Asia Table Tennis Association (SEATTA) General Secretary Muchlis Marliono and Brunei Darussalam Table Tennis Association (BDTTA) President Pengiran Haji Muhammad Noor bin Pengiran Haji Tajuddin attended the event.

Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud was also present during the closing ceremony. Fifteen categories were contested during the six-day tournament.
