Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh attended the 2nd World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education held from November 14-16 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The event co-organised by the United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Preschool Education saw participation from 70 education ministers and 2,500 delegates from 150 countries.
The conference themed ‘Early Investment for Better Learning and Brighter Future’ saw Uzbekistan President Shavkat Miziyoyev emphasising the need to enhance international cooperation in early childhood care and education. He said Uzbekistan places great importance on the care and support of young people and children, bringing them up healthy and spiritually mature.
During the conference, ministers, senior officials and stakeholders exchanged knowledge on key enablers, emerging research results, good practices and innovations to put in place and scale up quality Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) policies and programmes.
The conference also identified opportunities, develop and agree upon a set of priorities and strategies to accelerate progress and increase investment in ECCE.
The conference saw the adoption of ‘Tashkent Framework for Action’, which contains key principles for transformational ECCE; recommendations based on regional consultations’ outcomes and the findings of the numerous consultations.
