The Mental Health Strategy Unit of the Health Promotion Centre (HPC), Ministry of Health held a mental health awareness programme for Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College students recently.

Themed ‘Mental Health Awareness in Religious Perspective’, the programme was attended by some 200 pre-university students who will sit for the GCE A-levels exams in October.

The event was held at the college’s auditorium with a briefing by Brunei Youth Council committee member and Brunei Islamic Council certified Daie Muhammad Khairul Muaz bin Haji Sibodaud. The programme is an activity under the memorandum of partnerships, ‘Friends of HPC’ between the HPC and Brunei Youth Council.

The programme aimed to raise awareness among the public, especially students and teachers as well as school counsellors on the importance of mental health with a focus on college students.

It educates the young to detect early signs of mental health problems while encouraging them to seek help if needed.

The programme also scrutinises mental health and religion while approaching a holistic approach to mental health issues.
