Maritime industry in the spotlight

Brunei despite being a small country, is continuously striving to further develop in the maritime and marine-related industries by investing in modern infrastructure fostering international collaborations, implementing sustainable practices and providing specialised training to its workforce, the Federation of ASEAN Shipowners Association (FASA) Chairman Haji Awang bin Haji Ali of Belait Shipping Co (B) Sdn Bhd said.

He said this during the 59th Executive Council Meeting for FASA at The Empire Brunei yesterday.

The FASA’s 59th Executive Council Meeting served as a pivotal platform for its members and local stakeholders to engage in discussions on crucial maritime industry matters.

“The event is to provide a platform for both local and foreign industry players and stakeholders to exchange ideas, learn and share knowledge especially in the areas of regulatory frameworks, industry best practices and potentially explore opportunities in maritime and marine related industries,” said Haji Awang.

He also said,“ Recently, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah announced the launch of the Brunei Darussalam Maritime Cluster underscoring the commitment of the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to stimulate and facilitate the development of the non-oil and gas sector as part of Brunei Vision 2035 goal toward a dynamic and sustainable economy to further develop the maritime and marine- related industries.”

“Developing relevant strategic maritime policies is important to further develop Brunei’s advancement in the industry to benefit the country and ASEAN as a whole.”

Assistant Chief Executive Officer of Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) Salmaya Rahayu binti Salleh and FASA Secretary General Michael Phoon were also present.  – James Kon
