A 26-year-old local man was sentenced recently to three years and eight months’ jail and three strokes of the cane for sexually assaulting his 13-year-old foster brother.
The defendant, whose name is withheld for the victim’s privacy had earlier plead guilty to the assault charge, while denying a charge of sodomising the victim in 2015.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihan Nabilah binti Haji Ahmad Ghazali said that the case came to light when the boy confided in his older sister on July 31 of the sexual encounters he had with the defendant.
A police report was lodged and led to the defendant’s arrest the same day, Intermediate Court Judge Harnita Zelda Skinner heard.
The court also heard that the defendant had been informally adopted by the victim’s father when the victim was younger. – Fadley Faisal
