A 35-year-old local man was recently sentenced to two years’ jail with two canings after the Magistrate’s Court found him guilty of breaking into a residence.
At the outset, Kamarudin Abdull Karim denied the charge for breaking into a house in Kampong Mulaut at 10am on November 8, 2021.
Senior Magistrate Azrimah binti Abdul Rahman found the prosecution’s case against the defendant to have proven it beyond reasonable doubt.
DPP Muhammad Qamarul Affyian bin Abdul Rahman’s case throughout the trial revealed the real turn of events. The defendant was cycling from his house in Kampong Mulaut, headed towards Kampong Sengkurong at 10am on November 8, 2021. While still in Kampong Mulaut, the defendant entered the compound of a house.
Seeing no one around, he noticed that a window was open and entered through it leading to a bedroom.
The tenant’s sister, who was driving past the house, saw the defendant climbing through the window. The observer screamed “thief”, while honking her car horn to attract attention.
The defendant was startled, causing him to exit the house through the same window and flee on his bicycle.
Other house occupants and a member of the public gave chase to the defendant and apprehended him. The public assisted in alerting the police, who arrested the defendant.
