A 35-year-old man was sentenced to nine months’ jail with two canings for sexually assaulting a female co-worker.
Mohd Fir Ali Rahmathan bin Haji Hamdi first denied the charge against him on November 5, 2022 alleging that he sexually assaulted the 27-year-old woman at their workplace in Kampong Jerudong on August 15, 2019.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Affyian bin Abdul Rahman laid out the case over the trial and proved beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant committed the offence, leading to the victim confiding in her superior outside the workplace and lodging a police report.
Mohd Fir Ali Rahmathan’s defence was that the victim conspired with her superior, claiming that the victim was motivated by her personal problems, which according to Magistrate Nur Eleana binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Hairol Arni, was not put in cross-examination of the prosecution’s witnesses and “does not stand against the overwhelming evidence against him”. – Fadley Faisal
