ANN/THE STAR – Azlee Jaafar, a member of the Malaysian comedy ensemble Senario, was hospitalised at the National Heart Institute (IJN) following a cardiac episode.
In a conversation with the source’s Malay-language platform, Azlee’s spouse, Aslinda Ayob, shared that her husband had been urgently taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital on the night of Wednesday, June 5, after complaining of chest discomfort.
However, due to his deteriorating condition, medical professionals recommended transferring Azlee, aged 56, to IJN.
“The doctors (at IJN) identified a 99 per cent blockage in Azlee’s artery, necessitating a heart stent procedure. Thanks to the grace of Allah, he’s currently in stable condition, though he still requires ample rest,” she revealed.
Aslinda recounted Azlee’s profuse sweating and respiratory distress on Wednesday evening, symptoms they hadn’t initially associated with a heart attack.
“He didn’t have any heart diseases before this, but he did have high blood pressure.
“He has gout too and has been on medication for 10 years.
“He never had a heart attack, but maybe there were symptoms we failed to notice.
“Sometimes, he would experience numbness in his hands, but I had always assumed it was a symptom of diabetes,” she said.
Meanwhile, Azlee told the source he is grateful that his two-hour surgery went by without any complications.
Azlee added that he was very lucky he didn’t need a bypass surgery.
“I gained consciousness at around 3am. My breathing is a lot better but not perfect as I’m still recuperating,” he said.
