Malaysia welcomes UN resolution on Gaza, calls on urgent action

PUTRAJAYA (BERNAMA) – Malaysia welcomed the adoption of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution titled ‘Scaling Up and Monitoring Aid to Gaza’ on Friday in New York, which called for immediate, safe and expanded humanitarian access to Gaza and create the conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities.

Malaysia urged all parties to comply with and implement the decisions of the Security Council resolutions and all of its relevant resolutions on the Occupied Palestinian Territories in accordance with the principles of the United Nations (UN) Charter.

“Malaysia repeats its demand for an urgent ceasefire to allow safe and unhindered humanitarian assistance.

“The barbaric and heinous atrocities against Palestinians are unjustifiable and must end immediately.

“The relentless crimes committed by the apartheid Israeli regime must not continue with impunity,” said a statement from the Malaysian Foreign Ministry.

The UN resolution also called for all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law and deplored all attacks against civilians and civilians’ objects, as well as all violence and hostilities against civilians, and all acts of terrorism.

The resolution also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, as well as ensuring humanitarian access to address their medical needs.

The UN secretary-general is also requested to report on the implementation of this resolution in the regular reporting to the Council. Malaysia reiterated its call for a durable solution by granting the Palestinians their own independent and sovereign state, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
