Making a spontaneous, lifesaving choice

Thirty-seven pints of blood were collected during a donation drive at the Annajat Complex yesterday.

The event, organised by Atha Sdn Bhd in collaboration with the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital Blood Donation Centre, saw donors roll up sleeves to help replenish supplies at the nation’s blood banks.

Madiana binti Moksin from Berakas was at the event to donate blood for the first time.

An administrative staff member of the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society, Madiana did not feel anxious or nervous after spontaneously deciding to donate.

“There’s no specific reason, I just thought of doing my part as a responsible citizen. I’m grateful to have passed the health screening process and was able to donate today,” she said, adding she hopes to donate more in the future.

Atha Event Coordinator Pengiran Mohamad Nor Alimin bin Pengiran Haji Rakit said the company holds such events as part of their corporate social responsibility.

“We appreciate the public response, which has been very encouraging and supportive over the years,” he said, adding that they hold campaigns during the fasting month, and hoped that for this year, many would come to donate as was the case in previous years. – Lyna Mohamad
