Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s (UBD) Perkasa Darussalam Team, which participated in the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia competition, has come up with a prototype battery electric vehicle, naming it Mantuka Aswad.
The Perkasa Darussalam Team said their participation in the competition is a demonstration of UBD’s emphasis on Brunei Vision 2035, the developmental agenda of education to produce a generation of highly-knowledgeable, skilled and employable youth able to face competitive global challenges with the acquired knowledge.
UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle launched the vehicle at the Faculty of Integrated Technologies (FIT) building at the university yesterday.
Mantuka Aswad sponsors Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP), Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd (BSM) and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) representatives were present. The Perkasa Darussalam Team is manned by undergraduate students of UBD’s FIT, which offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in engineering.
The faculty offers undergraduate degrees in General Engineering, the first internationally-recognised ABET accredited programme in the country, and Chemical and Process Engineering, which is the first joint training programme with Zhejiang University, China.
