Local table tennis youth players bag medals in SEA meet

Brunei Darussalam table tennis team enjoyed a clean sweep in the novice category of the Under-19 Girls’ Singles event of the Southeast Asia (SEA) Youth Table Tennis Championships Brunei 2023 at the Tutong Sports Complex yesterday.

Brunei’s Ling Yi Zhen led the country’s podium finishers with gold followed by her compatriot Vicky Lim Wei Qi with silver.

National under-19 teammates Shing Yee Nyau and Michelle Wong Wei Hu shared joint bronze.

Brunei also added two bronze in the male novice categories through Awangku Abdul Basheer bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad Noor in the Under-19 Boys’ Singles event and Stanley Wang Xing Bo in the Under-15 Boys’ Singles event.

Cambodia’s Kang Yukheang struck gold in the Under-19 Boys’ Singles event while Laos’ Phongsavanh Sengmany won gold in the Under-15 Boys’ event.

Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud presented prizes to the winners.

The tournament saw the participation of nine countries namely Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and host nation Brunei Darussalam.
