The Local Product Expo was officially launched on Thursday by Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, and Acting Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Pengiran Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Zety Sufina binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani.
The event is being held at Halls 1 and 2 of Bridex from November 28 to December 1, in conjunction with the 8th Brunei December Festival. Organised by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE), Ministry of Home Affairs, and Darussalam Enterprise (DARe), the expo aims to showcase and promote local products and services.
This year’s expo features over 200 local companies representing various sectors, including agriculture and agrifood, banking and finance, construction and interior design, fisheries and fish processing, food and beverage, tourism and hospitality, transportation and logistics, wood products, creative products, educational services, fashion and clothing, and information and communication technology (ICT).
The expo is a platform for local entrepreneurs and businesses to promote and directly market their products and services to buyers. It also aims to raise public awareness of the wide array of local offerings and strengthen business networks through opportunities for revenue generation, networking, and business matching with suppliers.
Throughout the expo, several briefing sessions will be held, focusing on topics such as entrepreneurship, branding and marketing, food and beverage marketing codes, and application guidelines for fishing equipment licenses. These sessions are designed to benefit entrepreneurs and members of the public interested in exploring business opportunities.
Daily activities with chances to win exciting prizes are also on offer, including fruit tree planting demonstrations, rice sensory tasting, and more, providing an interactive experience for visitors.
The launch of the Local Product Expo also marks the start of the 8th Brunei December Festival, a month-long event held during the school holidays. Organised annually by the MPRT, the festival features a variety of activities aimed at encouraging citizens and residents to spend their holidays in the country while promoting Brunei Darussalam as a tourist destination. – James Kon
