A 31-year-old local man, Mohamad Muhaimin bin Jufri, was sentenced to seven months in jail yesterday after pleading guilty to assault and criminal intimidation at the Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Mohamad Muhaimin had admitted to two charges. The first occurred on October 30, when he confronted his neighbour aggressively, shouting and pointing his finger in a threatening manner. The victim retreated into his house and contacted the police, as well as Mohamad Muhaimin’s father for assistance.
Later that day, Mohamad Muhaimin returned to his neighbour’s house, armed with a kitchen knife. He threatened his father by pointing the knife directly at him. Despite his father’s efforts to calm him down, Mohamad Muhaimin continued his aggressive behaviour, making clear threats.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Atikah Husaini presented the case in court, emphasising the alarm caused to both the neighbour and the defendant’s father. Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid also noted that Mohamad Muhaimin had no prior convictions before passing sentence. – Fadley Faisal
