Local man held for alleged theft

A local man, aged 27, was caught when attempting to escape after allegedly stealing several items from a store yesterday.

According to the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), the incident was reported to the Bandar Seri Begawan Police Station, where an investigation led to the discovery of stolen items amounting to BND609.10, comprising folding knives, door bells, security locks and switches access.

The incident came to light when store employees noticed that the suspect was hovering suspiciously. He was halted at the exit for inspection, but refused to cooperate by attempting to flee.

The suspect was detained and an investigation was carried out.

The suspect was also found to be involved in a theft in Kuala Belait.

The suspect will face charges under Section 380, Chapter 22 of the Penal Code for theft in a building that carries the punishment of imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the RBPF urged the public to provide information relating to any criminal activities.
