Professional futsal player from the Almerez Futsal Academy Muhammad Nasy’rul Wafiy bin Haji Hassan signed a contract with Malaysian side, Kuala Lumpur City FC.

The 24-years-old said, “As a Bruneian, I felt honoured to be playing professional futsal overseas. I hope that this will be an eye opener and inspiration for other local futsal players to pursue their dream of playing in overseas.”

He added, “Even though the journey may be hard and challenging, if we continue to work hard and be persistent, we can succeed.“

He hopes to gain experience in Malaysia and become a top scorer or MVP for the league. Muhammad Nasy’rul Wafiy, was the top scorer in the Brunei Futsal Cup last year with 15 goals.

Present to send off Muhammad Nasy’rul Wafiy at the Brunei International Airport was Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) President Pengiran Haji Matusin bin Pengiran Haji Matasan.

Almerez FC headcoach Haji Muhammad Abdul Azim bin Haji Zakaria said that he was proud and hopes that Muhammad Nasy’rul Wafiy can bring back his experience and knowledge to benefit the national futsal squad.

Almerez FC manager, Pg Hj Kamarunsalehin bin Pg Hj Kamis mentioned that producing a professional level player is not easy and this is another milestone for them after one of the players, Radhi Radhuan was recruited by Sarawak United in 2020.

The manager added, “It was not exactly smooth sailing for Muhammad Nasy’rul Wafiy, with ups and downs in 2022. After falling short of the Brunei National Futsal Squad in April 2022, his mindset was to work even harder since, finishing as the top scorer of the Brunei Futsal Cup 2022, and eventually earning a spot in the Kuala Lumpur City FC squad.“
