A 38-year-old local man was fined BND5,000 by the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to possession of vape products without a permit.
Sofian bin Bujong would have to serve five months in jail in default of payment of the fine.
Magistrate Syaffina binti Syahif heard that on September 14, 2022, at around 2pm, Customs and Excise Department preventive officers conducted an operation in the vicinity of a supermarket in Salambigar.
The officers discovered Sofian in possession of thirteen units of various types of vape devices and four bottles of vape juice. A total of BND996 in cash, believed to be proceeds from the sale of the illegal products, was also seized.
Sofian admitted to having no permit or authorisation to possess the items, which are prohibited under the law.
All confiscated items were ordered forfeited to the state, while the vape products are to be destroyed. – FADLEY FAISAL
