Local faces trial in 2021 infant murder case

A case involving the alleged murder of a baby-girl in August 2021 has been set for trial against a local man after the Magistrate’s Court concluded its Preliminary Inquiry, deciding that there is ample evidence for prosecutors to pursue the case.

Muhammad Aisamuddin bin Haji Tajudin is facing the noose for a charge of murdering the 10- month-old baby sometime on August 21 and 22, 2021, in a bedroom of a house in Kampong Sibulu, Jalan Selangan Bokok, Temburong District.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Rozaimah binti Abdul Rahman and Prosecutor Syazwani binti Jumat laid out the evidence intended to be brought before the trial.

On July 13, Magistrate Harnita Zelda Skinner established that the prosecution’s evidence is strong enough to make a case and remitted it to the High Court for trial.

Among the evidence populated by the prosecution is a post-mortem report on the victim, including forensic samples.

The defendant appears to have sought no legal representation at the time of mention.
