Local content festival award open for submissions

James Kon

Two main categories will be contested for the highly-anticipated Brunei Content Festival Award this year which is now open for submissions.

The industry category, open to businesses, is divided into best drama, best comedy, best horror and best advertisement, while the open category, open to freelancers, students of higher learning institutions, and individuals, is divided into best Brunei identity, best short film, best music video and best short film under institute of higher learning.

According to the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), the award, launched in 2022, aims to raise awareness and promote local content by recognising content creators, producers, talents and industry players, as well as to generate more high-quality local content with commercial potential that can be distributed and telecasted through over-the-top (OTT) and other digital media platforms.

It will also provide opportunities for local production companies and new media content producers to collaborate in co-producing, marketing and distributing new media content.

There will also be jury awards given based on the submissions of industry and open categories, namely best cinematography, best actress, best social media content, best editing, best direction, best performance, best actor and best concept.

Entry to the Brunei Content Festival 2023 Award is open for submission until June 23. Any completed content that has been released in the Sultanate or is currently airing between January 1, 2021 until March 31 is eligible to participate.

The winners will be announced at the Brunei Content Festival 2023 Award Night scheduled for September. An industry forum, the Brunei Content Festival 2023 Content Screening and the Brunei Content Festival Award Night are among the main events.
