Litterbugs: 24 companies and 22 individuals slapped with fines

The Licensing and Enforcement Division of the Brunei-Muara District Office carried out a nationwide operation from May 13-16 in multiple areas in the district resulting in a total of 46 fines worth BND38,000 issued to 24 companies and 22 individuals in all four districts.

The operation was also carried out simultaneously by enforcement agencies – the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department, the Tutong Municipal Department and the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board and the Temburong Municipal Department.

The nationwide operation was implemented by district and municipal departments to enforce laws regarding cleanliness of public spaces.

The authorities also reminded business owners and individuals to pay the fines immediately and clean up the areas that had been turned into dumping grounds.

The failure to pay the fine, under the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021, will result in the case being brought to court, which could bring a further penalty of up to BND3,000 for individual, and up to BND30,000 or imprisonment of up to 12 months, or both, for a company. – Azlan Othman
