Licensed agencies to facilitate employment of Bangladeshi nationals

The Labour Department through the Ministry of Home Affairs announced applications for the employment of Bangladeshi nationals in the Sultanate must undergo processing through licensed employment agencies under the Labour Department, which will be effective starting February 1.

The announcement emphasised that authorised agencies will coordinate directly with Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL) in Bangladesh.

The update is aligned with the memorandum of understanding signed on October 16, 2022 during His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s state visit to Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The revised process aims to ensure transparency, prevent fraud, and address human trafficking concerns related to the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers.

By enhancing the quality of service delivery and fostering a cooperative relationship between the governments of Brunei Darussalam and Bangladesh, the implementation seeks to streamline labour affairs. The Labour Department encourages licensed employment agencies to submit new and additional Foreign Workers License (LPA) applications through the National Labour Management System (NLMS) website. – Rokiah Mahmud
