LegCo Speaker meets delegation from German Bundestag

A delegation from the German Bundestag paid a courtesy call to the Speaker of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib yesterday.

The delegation comprising six members of the German Federal Parliament was led by Chairperson for the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the ASEAN member states Gabriele Katzmarek.

German Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Gerda Winkler also welcomed the delegates during their visit.

Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to the LegCo Dr Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hurairah, as well as LegCo members were also present.

During the visit, the two parties discussed and affirmed commitment to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries, including people-to-people exchanges.

The delegates emphasised the importance of ASEAN in Germany’s foreign policy and the need to increase cooperation in the region.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman shared that the nation has always strived for peace and stability, while also pursuing efforts to diversify the economy.

The visit concluded with both parties affirming their commitment to strengthen parliamentary relations and increase cooperation between the two legislatures. – Daniel Lim
